Smoky Valley Girls Track Wins Regionals; 17 Total Athletes Qualify for State

POMONA, Kan. – The Smoky Valley High School Track & Field teams competed in Regionals at West Franklin High School in Pomona Thursday, May 22. The Girls team won the Regional meet and 17 athletes between the boys and girls teams qualified for state.

Trista Spitler won the only individual regional title, winning the Triple Jump by just a quarter of an inch. However, 16 athletes on the girls team qualified for State by either finishing in the top three in their events or having one of the best times in the state outside of the top three in the meet.

The lone boys athlete who qualified was Kaden Bishop as he finished 4th in the 800M Run, but narrowly missing third place for the automatic qualifier by 0.28 seconds. The team finished 13th in the event.

The school’s qualifiers will head to the State Track & Field meet at Cessna Stadium in Wichita May 30-31.
