
The Hutchinon High defense held Valley Center to 12 first downs and 218 yards of offense, as the Salthawks improved to 2-0 by winning at Valley Center 25-18.
The Hornets mustered just 59 rushing yards on 21 attempts. Hutch also had one fumble recovery.
Hutchinson scored the first 13 points, as Jeremyah Gaitho Karanu had a pair of 3-yard touchdown runs. Valley Center got a late second-quarter field goal to cut their deficit to 13-3 and added a 1-yard touchdown run from Connor Thatcher early in the third quarter to trail 13-10.
Tramel Walker threw second-half touchdown passes to Karmelo Green from 4 yards out, and to Lamar Govain from 7 yards, pushing the lead to 25-10.
A late Spencer Crumrine touchdown catch and two-point conversion were the final points.
Karanu led Hutchinson’s offense with 117 rushing yards. Brodie McCuan had 10 tackles on defense.
Hutch makes its home debut next week with a marquee matchup with Maize.
