The Hutchinson High volleyball team reached the Class 5A substate championship match on Saturday at Maize South, but the Salthawks fell in straight sets, 25-10, 25-14, to the host Mavericks.
The 10th-seeded Salthawks had a great start to the tournament. In the semifinals against No. 7 Salina Central, the Salthawks rallied from a one-set deficit to beat Central 22-25, 25-18, 25-20.
Hutchinson ends the season with a 23-14 record.
