The Hutchinson High volleyball team had a strong Saturday at a tournament in Great Bend, winning three matches before falling in the championship match to the host school.
The Salthawks went relatively unchallenged in their first three matches. They opened the day with a 25-21-25-23 win over Salina Central. Next, the Salthawks beat Newton 25-12, 25-16, and then they beat Wichita West 25-8, 25-14.
Great Bend beat Hutchinson in a three-set match, 25-15, 18-25, 25-14.
The weekend moved the Salthawks’ record to 17-8 overall. They sit in third place in the Class 5A West standings, and the top four teams will host substate tournaments.
Hutchinson next plays Tuesday at the Salthawk Activity Center against Maize and Maize South.
