The Hutchinson High girls golf team finished in fifth place Tuesday at the Salina Invitational at Salina Municipal Golf Course.
Senior Ava Burlie led the Salthawks with an 18th-place finish, carding an 89. Senior Lily Rodriguez also broke 100, finishing 23rd with a 95.
Hutchinson will next play Thursday in Dodge City.
Boys soccer – The Salthawks went 2-1 at the annual Titan Classic at Wichita South.
Hutchinson opened the tournament with a quality 2-1 win over Garden City. The second game didn’t turn out as well, as perennial power Dodge City won by mercy rule, 8-0. The Salthawks finished strong, however, beating Wichita West 1-0.
Those are the only games the Salthawks have played so far this season. They will next play Thursday at Andover Central.
Volleyball – The Salthawks opened AVCTL DIvision 1 play Tuesday at Campus with a pair of losses.
Hutchinson first played Salina South and lost in a three-set thriller, 20-25, 28-26, 25-21. Campus then topped Hutchinson 25-12, 25-20. The losses dropped Hutchinson to 6-4 for the season, and will play again next Tuesday at Salina South
Cross country – The Salthawks competed Saturday at the Wichita State Invitational at Clapp Park.
On the girls side, sophomore Avery Tecklenberg finished in 54th place with a time of 22 minutes, 59.6 seconds, leading the team.
In the boys race, junior Ethan Holmes led the way in a time of 22:27.1, finishing 84th out of more than 140 runners. The boys came in 13th place.
