Salthawk Sports Roundup: Galyon’s Goal Lifts Soccer Past Maize

Rhyan Galyon’s second-half goal helped lift the Hutchinson High girls soccer team to its best win of the season Tuesday at the Salthawk Soccer Complex, beating Maize 1-0. Lily Rodriguez notched the assist.

Baleigh Cousin recorded the shutout for the Salthawks, who improved to 8-5 and moved up to sixth place in the Class 5A West Regional standings.

Hutch will next play Thursday at home against Wichita Trinity, which is currently the top seed in the Class 4-3-2-1A West Regional standings.

Baseball – After sweeping a Friday triangular against Haven and Andale/Garden Plain, the Salthawks a Tuesday doubleheader against Newton. Newton won the first game 4-1 before Hutchinson comfortably won the nightcap, 12-2.

Friday, it was a family affair, with Hutchinson coach Mace Krol going against his brothers, Noah at Haven and Adam at Andale/Garden Plain.

The Salthawks beat Andale/Garden Plain 3-1 and Haven 12-0.

Hutch is now 13-10 and in 10th place in the 5A West Regional standings.

Softball – The Salthawks earned a big doubleheader sweep Tuesday at Newton, winning 10-5 and 9-3.

The wins vaulted Hutchinson into 16th place in the 5A West Regional standings, which would place Hutch in the regional tournament.

Now at 7-19, Hutch will wrap up the regular season Friday against Maize at Fun Valley.

Boys golf – The Salthawks came in 18th at the annual Rusty Hilst Invitational on Friday at Carey Park Golf Course. Thirty-one teams played in the annual tournament.

Mitchell Rice led the Salthawks with an 82. Tate Engelland was right behind with an 84.
