Sacred Heart Basketball Sweeps Aside Lyons

The No. 5-ranked Salina Sacred Heart girls continued their winning ways as they defeated the Lyons Lions 63-32 in NCAA league play.

Lyons held the lead briefly early on in the first period before the Knights got their offense on track. Sacred Heart led 15-6 after that first period and 38-18 at halftime. The lead grew to 56-27 after the third quarter, with the Knights finishing with an impressive 31-point victory.

Sacred Heart was led in scoring by Skylar Douglas and Addie Lee. Douglas had a game-high 21 points, while Lee was right behind with 20 points.

Leading the way for Lyons was Greta Showalter with a career-high 15 points.

Sacred Heart advances its season record to 18-3 and 9-1 in league play.   Lyons is now 2-17 for the season and 0-10 in NCAA action.

The Lyons boys jumped out to a quick 8-0 lead, but Salina Sacred Heart, ranked No. 4 in Class 2A, bounced right back, going on an 18-1 run extending into the second period.

The Knights closed out the first half with a 33-15 advantage. The Knights maintained a 16-to-18 point advantage throughout the third period, leading 47-29 heading into the final period.

Sacred Heart was led by Noah Hines, who had a game-high 18 points, all coming inside the arc. He got great support as two other teammates were also in double figures, as Maddox Wells finished with 17 points and Kolten Sprague added 10 points.

Paco Espinoza led the Lions with nine points.  Tegan Link finished with 8 points followed by Quanick Hamilton with 7 points, Detrell Stanley 5, while Argenis Montanez, Anthony Ventura, and Derek Alvidrez each had 3 points.  Lyons made 11 of 20 free throws.

Sacred Heart improves its record to 18-2 and 9-0 in the NCAA standings while Lyons falls to 8-11 and 3-7 in league play.  Lyons will be on the road Friday to face Beloit.
