LEAVENWORTH, Kan. (MacBulldogs.com) — The McPherson College Bulldogs offense exploded for 542 total yards to pick up their second consecutive win, routing the University of Saint Mary Spires 38-10 at Charles J. Berkel Memorial Stadium in Leavenworth, Kan.

MC could do whatever they wanted on the ground, rushing for 308 yards and four touchdowns. The Bulldogs used a 1-2 punch for most of the contest, with the pair of Jalil Brown and Jeremiah Mosley combining for 262 yards on the ground and three touchdowns.

Kameron Hamid opened the scoring with an 18-yard touchdown reception from Tristan Szabo, capping an eight-play, 60-yard drive on the opening series of the game.

The Bulldogs defense joined in, forcing a fumble by Michael Gazzana. It took Brown just one play to make the Spires pay, scoring from 15-yards out to push the lead to 14-0 with 5:27 to play in the first quarter.

USM got a short field in the second quarter after a Bulldog fumble, but Lester Amos III came up big blocking a field goal to keep the Spires off the board.

Again, Brown made the Spires pay, punching it in from a yard out to cap an 11-play, 95-yard drive that melted 5:47 off the clock.

The Bulldogs first drive of the second half was more of the same, going 86 yards in 11 plays, before Alex Hill pushed the lead to 28-0, scoring his first touchdown of the 2024 season with 4:07 left in the third quarter.

Saint Mary found the endzone late in the third quarter when Cesar Vela found Gazzana for a six-yard touchdown. The teams traded fourth quarter field goals, with Maxwell Barba connecting on a 28-yarder, making it a 31-10 Bulldog advantage with just 5:04 to play.

Mosley put the icing on the cake with a 13-yard touchdown run, sealing the Bulldog victory and snapping a five-game road losing streak.

Szabo was efficient in the passing game, throwing for 177 yards on 12-for-17 passing, and one touchdown. Wyatt Smith came on in the fourth quarter and went 2-for-3 for 57 yards.

Defensively, the Bulldogs had three sacks, including one apiece by Amos III and Michael Allen.

MC will be back at McPherson Stadium next Saturday (Sep. 21) to square off against last season’s Bissell Division champion in Ottawa University. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
