KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Royals.com) – Shortly after getting left-hander Cole Ragans back in the fold, the Royals have returned their ace to the injured list. Ragans landed on the 15-day IL, retroactive to Sunday, with a left rotator cuff strain just one start after spending time on the IL with a left groin strain.
In corresponding moves, right-hander Lucas Erceg was activated from the IL, righty Jonathan Bowlan was recalled from Triple-A Omaha and righty Trevor Richards was designated for assignment.
Ragans absorbed his worst start of the season in the nightcap of Thursday’s doubleheader at St. Louis, allowing five runs and three walks across three innings. The 27-year-old has a 5.18 ERA over 10 starts this year, his second full season since joining the Royals in a Trade Deadline deal with the Rangers in 2023.
