Reno County Sabres Move to 5-0 with Victory over Colony-Crest

The Reno County Sabres Homeschool football team improved to a 5-0 record with a 75-30 victory over the Colony-Crest Lancers Friday night at Colony.

The Sabres led 33-24 after one quarter and outscored the Lancers 42-6 in the second half. The game ended at halftime on the 45-point rule.

The game featured plenty of passing by both teams.

The Colony-Crest Lancers (1-4), led by junior quarterback Lane Yocham, took to the air to keep the score close through the first quarter.

The Lancers rallied to trail 26-24 after a successful onside kick and a quick score with 2 minutes to go in the first quarter. The Sabres then pulled away throughout the second quarter.

The Sabres ran 28 offensive plays for 486 yards in the game.

Reno County was led in rushing by junior quarterback Bo Smith, who ran 7 times for 121 yards and four touchdowns. He completed 15-of-19 passes for 343 yards with seven touchdowns and zero interceptions.

Bo Smith has completed 51-of-67 passes this season for 23 TDs and zero interceptions. He also has rushed for 540 yards on 34 carries (15.9 yards per carry) and 13 TDs,

Junior wide receiver Jett Smith caught 2 passes against Crest for 78 yards and one TD. Freshman Colt Smith had 4 catches for 69 yards and three TDs. Freshman Rock Smith had 3 receptions for 52 yards and three TDs.

Rock Smith has 22 carries this season for 314 yards (14.3 ppc) and six TDs. Junior Laurence Cable has 15 carries for 164 yards (10.93 ppc) and three TDs.

Colt Smith has 11 catches for 245 yards and eight TDs. Senior Sam Loewen has 10 catches for 240 yards with three TDs. Rock Smith has 12 catches for 219 yards and 10 TDs.

Jett Smith has 9 catches for 143 yards with one TD. Sophomore Dayne King has 6 catches for 90 yards with one TD.

The Sabres must transition from 8-man football to 11-man football when they hit the road next Friday to take on the Douglass Bulldogs.

Douglass, a Kansas Class 2A school, lost its Week 5 game to Kingman 54-40 Friday night and dropped to 2-3.
