Regional Cross Country Results: Buhler Sweeps 4A Regional, McPherson Squads Take 3rd

HUTCHINSON, Kan. – Buhler Head Cross Country Coach Curtis Morgan commented early in the season that his teams should have what it takes to compete for a state title. So far, they have not disappointed.

At Saturday’s home regional, the Buhler squads came up big, sweeping the girls and boys 5K races. Scott City finished second in both, followed by McPherson in third.

“It was a regional sweep for the Cru today,” Morgan exclaimed.

The Buhler girls packed five runners into the top 10, led by Corbin Starkweather. The freshman continued her standout season with a first-place time of 20:38.40.

The Buhler boys snagged seven of the top nine spots in their race. Seniors Layne Whisler and Kaden Lohrentz led the way finishing first and second respectively.

McPherson placed five runners inside the top 10 of both the boys and girls races. Head Coach Nikolous Rempe was very proud of his team’s effort. “We knew that if we ran like we had the past few weeks that we should be able to get both teams qualified for State,” he said.

The Class 4A State Meet will take place on Saturday, October 28th at the Wamego Country Club.
