HUTCHINSON, Kan. (KJCCC) – The Sports Arena again hosted high-caliber basketball as the women’s and men’s Region 6 championship games were held Saturday.
In the women’s title game, No.1-ranked Hutchinson squeezed past Butler 54-52. The Blue Dragons outscored the Grizzlies 38-20 in the paint, and shot a blistering 53 percent from the field in the nip-and-tuck fourth quarter.
Hutch was led by Hailey Jackson with 15 points and 5 rebounds, and Monae Duffy tossing in 12 points and 8 rebounds. Hutchinson won the automatic bid to the NJCAA championship tournament in Casper WY, held March 26 – April 1.
Barton took the men’s title 74-57 via balanced scoring and a game-high 24 points from Myles Thompson. Thompson also has 9 rebounds. Tournament MVP Lajae Jones hit 6-of-9 from the floor on his way to 14 points, and also contributed 9 rebounds.
Barton automatically qualified for the NJCAA National tournament in Hutchinson March 24-30. Hutchinson awaits the selection show on Sunday night to see if they also qualify, as does conference foe Cowley.
