MULVANE, Kan. – Freshman forward Eli Reasoner scored a career-high 28 points en route to McPherson’s second straight win, defeating Mulvane 52-39 on Friday, Jan. 9.
The win for the Bullpups marks their second straight league win, putting them up to 4-5 overall on the season, 2-1 against AVCTL-3 opponents. After a low-scoring 9-5 lead for McPherson at the end of the first quarter, the Bullpups hit another gear in the second frame to lead 26-13 at halftime.
McPherson then led 40-21 at the end of the third quarter, but Mulvane went on a quick run to cut the deficit to within 12. Both teams then shared baskets until the final buzzer, but the deficit was too much as McPherson would win 52-39.
“This team has gotten better,” Head Coach Kurt Kinnamon said. “This is a team that had a brutal start to the season and could have quit putting in the time and effort, but that’s not how they are. They’re excited to play again.”
Reasoner’s 28 points marks the third straight game in which he scored at least 20 points. Senior guard Jett Pyle added 12 points for McPherson, earning his eighth game reaching double-figures.
The Bullpups will return to the Roundhouse on Tuesday, Jan. 13 for another league game against Winfield. Tip-off is schedule for approximately 7:30 p.m.
