Quick Start Sets Tone for Lyons’ First Win of Season

Lyons jumped to a quick 7-0 lead 10 seconds into the game Friday, as Xander Young picked off the first play from scrimmage by Belle Plaine. Young jumped the pass into the right flat and returned it 26 yards for the TD, setting the tone in Lyons’ season-ending 26-18 win over Belle Plaine.

The teams then traded scores for the rest of the first half. Belle Plaine scored on a 10-yard run by Mattix Bruner. Lyons countered with another Xander Young run of 13 yards to give Lyons a 14-6 lead after the first quarter. Emmet Lawless caught a 19-yard pass from Sawyer Earhart to cut the lead to 14-12. Cain Villasenor kicked a 35-yard field goal as time expired in the first half to give Lyons the 17-12 lead. 

Lyons scored on the first possession to make the score 23-12 as Xander Young scored his third TD on a 9-yard run.  Villasenor added a 34-yard field goal as Lyons stretched the lead to 26-12 at the end of the third quarter.

Lyons had 260 yards rushing on 49 carries and were led by Xander Young with 205 yards on 28 carries and the three rushing touchdowns. He also completed 4 of 19 passes for 21 yards. 

Lyons closes their season at 1-8. Belle Plaine finishes at 0-9.
