KANSAS CITY, Mo. (MacBulldogs.com) – The Bulldogs were able to put a bow onto a strong regular season Saturday afternoon (Nov. 9) as they were able to sweep the Avila University Eagles to extend their win streak to 15 heading into the KCAC tournament.
Set one saw the Bulldogs take care of business right from the jump, take a quick 3-0 lead, and never surrendered it. Avila was able to come back into it and tie things up and go back and forth with MC during the early portions of the set, but a run that saw MC score eight out of 10 rally points made it 15-9 and forced Avila to call a timeout. The Bulldogs maintained control and cruised to a 25-17 win in set one.
Avila started set two strong, keeping within striking distance in the early part of the set. Once the Bulldogs settled in it was off to the races as MC scored 12 straight rally points to take a commanding 21-11 lead and used a run of four straight rally points to finish set two with a 25-13 win.
Now with a 2-0 match lead, MC put the foot to the floor and was ready to finish the job. The Bulldogs took a quick 7-1 lead and rolled from that point on. Avila was able to get points on the board thanks to some mistakes by MC, but that was not nearly enough as MC rolled to a 25-11 set three win to finish the sweep.
Daniela Jimenez shined as she recorded a game-high 17 kills. Raegan Murphy was again outstanding, collecting 31 assists along with 15 digs.
The Bulldogs finish out the regular season at an outstanding 25-6 and 12-1 in KCAC play with the lone loss being to Oklahoma Wesleyan in the conference opener, securing a share of the regular season championship with the Eagles. MC will play host to Kansas Wesleyan in the first round of the KCAC tournament on Tuesday, November 12. Start time is set at 7:00 p.m.
