DURHAM, N.C. (KUAthletics.com) – Kansas Volleyball defeated the Colgate Raiders on Sunday afternoon inside Cameron Indoor Stadium to complete the sweep of the Duke Tournament, dropping just one throughout the weekend. Nine different Jayhawks recorded multiple kills in Sunday’s match, and leading the way in that column was senior Ayah Elnady, who notched 12 total.
“We had great offensive balance today,” said Kansas Head Coach Ray Bechard. “When you side out at 80%, that’s an extremely good number. We had good first contact, passing, set selection and attacking choices. I thought we competitively and technically got better throughout the weekend, and I’m looking forward to opening up at home on Wednesday.”
Kansas started the match off on the right foot, taking the first set over Colgate 25-19. Senior London Davis took charge offensively for the Jayhawks, tallying five kills on a .833 hitting percentage in the first set. Camryn Turner finished the opening frame with 13 assists, propelling Kansas to an opening set win.
The Jayhawks snagged the second set from Raiders, this time by a 25-17 score. Junior Rhian Swanson recorded her first two kills of the season, and freshman Heidi Devers tallied two service aces in the second set. Kansas also held Colgate to just a .214 hitting percentage in the second set, anchored by the defense of sophomore Raegan Burns and redshirt junior Bryn McGehe.
Kansas completed the sweep over Colgate by winning the third set 25-15. The Jayhawks held Colgate to just a .125 hitting percentage, and the Kansas defense finished the match with 35 digs and nine total blocks. Freshman Ellie Moore also made her season debut in the final frame of the match.
Kansas will kick off the home schedule next time out, as they play host to Wichita State in their home opener on Wednesday, September 4th. First serve is set for 6:30 and the game can be streamed on ESPN+.
