DURHAM, N.C. (KUAthletics.com) – Kansas Volleyball improved to 2-0 on the season by defeating the Duke Blue Devils 3-1 on day two of their tournament at Cameron Indoor Stadium. Kansas was led by senior Toyosi Onabanjo who set a new career high in kills with 22, and senior Camryn Turner tallied 47 assists in the victory over the Blue Devils.

“Duke played a clean first set, but I thought we responded accordingly,” said Kansas Head Coach Ray Bechard. “We improved serving, and Toy obviously had a career night offensively. It was a little bit of a wake up call, and a good response in the second, third and fourth set.”

Kansas dropped their first set of the season in the opening frame against the Blue Devils by a final score of 25-22. Ayah Elnady led the way offensively for the Jayhawks tallying four kills, while Caroline Bien and Onabanjo wrapped up the first set with three a piece.

The Jayhawks got things back on track to even the match with Duke, as they took the second set 25-14, highlighted by a 7-0 scoring run. Onabanjo added five additional kills in the second frame and Bien provided support on both ends, tallying five digs and four kills in the second set of action.

KU continued to carry the momentum into the third set, defeating Duke 25-16. Raegan Burns accumulated seven digs in the third set, setting the tone defensively. Bien added another five kills, and Onabanjo notched four more to push Kansas to a third set victory.

Kansas closed out the match in style, defeating the Blue Devils by a 25-16 score once again. Onabanjo highlighted the Jayhawk attack in the final frame, as she recorded 10 kills in the set to bring her total to 22 with a .741 hitting percentage, which marked a new career high. Turner also tallied 10 assists in the fourth set to power Kansas past Duke.
