Hutchinson CC Sports Information
It was a memorable Sophomore Day and 14th Annual Pinkout for the Hutchinson Community College women’s basketball team as the No. 13 Blue Dragon women topped the Pratt Beavers 75-34 in the regular season home finale Saturday at the Sports Arena.
Every Blue Dragon player scored, including 36 points from the bench. The Blue Dragons wrap up the regular season on the road at Fort Hays Tech Northwest Wednesday, March 4 at Max Jones Fieldhouse in Goodland.
Hutchinson improves to 24-5 on the season, and 19-4 in the Jayhawk Conference. The Dragons also end the home regular season slate with a record of 13-3. Pratt falls to 7-22 overall, and 3-21 in conference play.
The Blue Dragon women also went undefeated in the month of February.
Hutchinson sweeps the regular season series with Pratt.
Katie Duncan led Hutchinson in scoring with 12, only knocking down two field goals, both being three-pointers. Rylee McLucas scored all 11 points in the fourth quarter, including three 3-pointers. Jamya McPherson also scored in double figures with 10. Kaia Smith was big on the glass, grabbing 12 rebounds.
As a team, Hutchinson shot 37.9% from the field (25-66), and 22.2% from three-point range (8-36). The Dragons got to the free-throw line 21 times, connecting on 17 attempts. Hutchinson dominated Pratt in most categories – on the glass, outrebounding them 52-29, and getting 18 offensive rebounds compared to Pratt’s 4. Those 18 offensive rebounds allowed Hutchinson to get 19 second-chance points. Hutchinson also scored 30 points in the paint, opposed to four by Pratt, and outscored Pratt on fast breaks 13-0.
As a team, the Beavers went 12 of 52 (23.1%) from the floor. Pratt shot 29.6% (8 of 27) from beyond the arc. Individually, Pratt was led in scoring by Amaya Pierre-Jerome off the bench with 12, who made four 3-pointers.
Pratt’s only lead came after the opening bucket, but Hutchinson quickly seized control with an 8-0 run to make it 8-2, capped by a KaMyra Barber free throw. Hutchinson stretched the margin to 21-10 at the end of the first quarter. Eleven points was as close as Pratt would get in the first half; Hutchinson surrendered just six points in the second quarter to take a 37-16 lead into halftime.
In the third quarter, Hutchinson allowed just six points and held Pratt scoreless for the final seven minutes of the quarter and the first three minutes of the fourth quarter. Hutchinson went on a 19-0 run throughout the third and fourth quarters. Hutchinson’s largest lead was 41 with 4:04 left in the fourth.
After the game, the Blue Dragons held Sophomore Day, recognizing six players: Noelle Anthon, Katie Duncan, Delora Pricop, Jaden Wilson, Dylan Alexander, and Jamya McPherson.
Game Notes – Hutchinson extends its winning streak to nine. Rylee McLucas had a season-high with 11 points. Kaia Smith had a season-high 12 rebounds – the third time she has amassed 10 rebounds in a game. Jamya McPherson had her fifth double-digit scoring game of the season, and her first since January 21st against Garden City. Katie Duncan scored in double figures for the 17th time this season.
