Nickerson’s Monroe, Buhler’s Hershberger Place 3rd at 4A State Wrestling

Nickerson senior 165-pounder Kris Monroe placed third in the 165-pound weight class at the Kansas Class 4A boys state tournament Saturday at Salina’s Tony’s Pizza Events Center.

Monroe now owns the school record for most wins in a season (45) and posted the highest state meet finish for the Panther wrestlers since 1987. He posted a 45-4 record this season.

Buhler senior Sammy Hershberger placed third at 138 pounds (14-2 record) and Jacob Burklow placed sixth at 190 pounds (26-10 record).

Buhler’s Max Harmony finished in the top eight at 157 pounds and earned a medal on Saturday.

Halstead’s Logan Overton was defeated in the blood rounds, ending his state tournament run.

Halstead’s Riley Queen was defeated in his first match of the day, bringing his state tournament run to a close.
