Nickerson Girls, Boys Swept by St. John at Larned Keady Classic

The Nickerson High School girls and boys basketball teams lost their first round games to St. John at the Larned Keady Classic Monday at the Larned Middle School gymnasium.

The Nickerson Panther girls lost a 72-20 decision to the St. John Tiger girls and the Nickerson Panthers boys lost 62-31.

In the girls game, the score was tied 9-9 after one quarter. St. John outscored Nickerson 28-0 in the second quarter to take a 37-9 halftime lead.

The Tigers outscored the Panthers 26-7 in the third quarter to increase the margin to 63-16.

The St. John Tiger girls outscored Nickerson 9-4 in the fourth quarter for the 72-20 final score.

Lilly Brummer and Gentry Bright each scored 24 points for the Tiger girls. Jalyn Fisher tallied 14 points.

Skylar Lamas led the Nickerson girls with 7 points and Taylor Galloway added 4.

In the boys game, St. John led 16-8 after one quarter, 34-14 at halftime and 55-27 after three quarters. St. John outscored Nickerson 7-4 in the fourth quarter.

Emmett Delp led St. John with 22 points. Wyatt Mawhirter contributed 14.

Riley Brawner paced the Nickerson boys with 12 points.

In Monday’s other Keady Classic games, the Hoisington Cardinal girls defeated the Bucklin Red Aces 45-40 and the Hoisington boys downed Bucklin 60-36.

The Nickerson girls will play the loser of Tuesday’s Holcomb-Plainville girls game at 5 p.m. Thursday at the Larned High School gymnasium.

The Nickerson boys will play the loser of the Holcomb-Plainville boys game at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Larned High School gymnasium.
