The Nickerson High School boys placed sixth Thursday afternoon at the St. John Mid-Winter Classic and the Panther girls finished eighth.
The Nickerson boys lost to Cimarron 76-56 in the fifth-place boys game to place sixth.
The Nickerson girls lost to Cimarron 52-38 in the seventh-grade girls game and placed eighth.
The Nickerson Panther boys trailed Cimarron 21-8 after one quarter, 42-26 at halftime and 61-46 after three quarters.
The St. John girls defeated Macksville 71-38 in the fifth-place girls game and the Inman boys defeated Macksville 71-36 in the seventh-place boys game.
The Inman boys jumped out to a 21-6 first quarter lead and led at halftime 41-27. The Teutons led 60-32 after three quarters. Inman put the Mustangs away with an 11-4 fourth quarter.
The St. John Mid-Winter Classic first-place games and the third-place games will be played Saturday.
The Little River girls, ranked first in Kansas Class 1A Division I, play Inman in the girls championship game at noon Saturday.
The Little River boys play Central Plains at 1:30 p.m. in the boys championship.
Larned’s girls and boys teams are competing in the third-place games. Larned’s girls play Central Plains at 3 p.m., followed by the Larned boys against St. John at 4:30 p.m.
The Mid-Winter Classic games were postponed to Thursday and Saturday because of a snowstorm last Friday.
The Nickerson girls and boys host Sterling Friday night.
