Lindsborg, Kan. – The Bethany College women’s basketball team opened the 2025–26 season on Tuesday, October 28th with a mix of fresh faces and renewed energy, falling 57-87 to Hastings College inside Hahn Gymnasium. Despite the final score, the Swedes displayed flashes of promise as four transfers made their Bethany debut and immediately stepped into key roles.

Colbi Rignell led the offensive charge with 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting, while Becca Unruh added 10 points, five rebounds, and four assists from the backcourt. Janae Black-Harmon provided strength in the post with seven points and seven rebounds, and Jae’Mya Lyons made an efficient impact off the bench, scoring six points and grabbing seven boards.

The Swedes matched Hastings nearly rebound-for-rebound (37–40) and hit over 81 percent from the free-throw line, showing composure at the stripe. Despite turnovers proving costly, Bethany continued to compete hard, closing the game on a strong fourth-quarter push with 24 points — their highest-scoring frame of the night.

While Tuesday’s opener didn’t go Bethany’s way, the new group showed early chemistry and a competitive edge that hints at strong potential for the season ahead. The Swedes will look to build on that energy when they return to action this week in nonconference play.
