Neosho County CC Baseball Coach Murry Honored by NJCAA

CHANUTE, Kan. – Neosho County Community College Head Baseball Coach Steve Murry was honored by the NJCAA in Charlotte, NC for the Coaches Legacy Award.

Murry just finished his 39th year as the head baseball coach with the Panthers and has a career record of 1,231-829. He was given the Coaches Legacy Award for winning over 1,000 career games.

The 2025 season saw the Panthers finish 24-30, but Murry coached All-American and KJCCC Freshman of the Year Maverick Williamson. Since being hired in 1986, Murry’s teams have averaged 31.6 wins per season, including the shortened 2020 season due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Murry’s coaching accomplishments include taking the team to three JuCo World Series’, a three-time Jayhawk Conference Coach of the Year, and has coached 59 players who either were drafted or signed to play professional baseball, including 30 who were either drafted by or signed into the MLB.

Coach Murry hails from Grand Island, Neb. and attended Cloud County Community College and Fort Hays State University, earning undergraduate and graduate degrees in Physical Education. Alongside his coaching duties, he is also a Physical Education instructor.
