LAWRENCE, Kan. (247Sports.com) – Kansas football landed its first commitment of the Designated Student Athlete portal window. Sources tell 247Sports, on Monday, the Nebraska transfer Jaidyn Doss committed to Lance Leipold and the Jayhawks. The receiver spent two years with the Nebraska program, in which he played multiple positions, and has three years of eligibility remaining.
Doss committed to Nebraska after a strong 2,000-plus yard receiving career at Raymore-Peculiar High School in Kansas City. At the time, Doss had committed to Scott Frost’s program, but that changed once Matt Rhule took over for the Cornhuskers in late 2022.
The 6-foot, 195-pound receiver appeared at receiver against Illinois, Northwestern, Purdue and Michigan State as a true freshman. During the stretch, he caught two passes for 20 yards. However, after that point, Doss struggled to find a good spot to fit in on Rhule’s roster.
Doss switched to cornerback following the 2023 season, and he appeared in the secondary in just one game in 2024. Following his redshirt freshman year, however, Doss decided to switch back to receiver.
Taking advantage of a new rule created by the House v. NCAA settlement, Doss became a Designated Student Athlete, as one of many players grandfathered into the new 105-player roster limits. The settlement also allows for a new portal window, which Doss entered, for said Designated Student Athletes.
Once Doss entered the portal early last week, KU was quick to jump on the receiver. He was originally recruited by Les Miles’ staff and received an offer in 2020. Even though Leipold’s staff got him on campus in mid-2021, Doss didn’t heavily consider KU in high school.
A fifth portal receiver, Doss, provides more depth and competition at the position, which is teeming with flux heading into the 2025 season. Doss, with three years of eligibility remaining, will look to compete and acclimate quickly in Lawrence to climb the depth chart.
