Three Moundridge players scored in double figures, and the Wildcats shook off a slow start to beat Trinity Catholic 54-25 on Thursday in Hutchinson.

Moundridge suffered a tough break on the opening tip as Heath Churchill went down with an injury and never returned. Trinity Catholic had a solid start, scoring the first four points and trailing 12-8 after one.

It remained close for most of the second quarter, but a couple of late 3-pointers from Easton Shahan and Jesse Lutz helped give Moundridge a 24-15 lead at the break.

Trinity couldn’t get its 3-point shooting going, making just three two days after making nine in its win at Bennington. Despite getting many good looks from the perimeter, the Celtics couldn’t get many to go in.

Layton Schmidt led Moundridge with 14 points. Shahan and Fynn Burge added 12 apiece.

Alex Guajuardo led the Celtics with seven points. They fall to 7-13 and will welcome Inman on Friday. Moundridge improves to 18-3.
