The Hutchinson Monarchs had their most forgettable night of the season Monday at Hobart-Detter Field, falling 14-1 to the Junction City Brigade.
The loss snapped the Jayhawk Collegiate League champion’s 11-game winning streak. It was the fewest runs the Monarchs have scored this year, and it ties for the most runs allowed. Junction City scored 14 during a 14-10 win on June 20 in Junction City.
The Monarchs were down two runs before they batted and couldn’t get their powerful hitting on track, finishing with just five hits.
Junction City managed only nine hits, but took advantage of nine walks, five hit by pitches and two Monarch errors.
Ethan Giesbrecht took the loss, giving up three runs on six hits in three innings.
The Monarchs fell to 25-6 overall and 23-6 in the league. Junction City, meanwhile, has won five in a row and eight of nine, vaulting into second place with an 18-11 league record. The teams will meet again at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Junction City.
