Monarchs get outhit for first time this season in loss at Junction City

The Hutchinson Monarchs were outhit for the first time this season Friday, as the Junction City Brigade came from three runs down to beat the Monarchs 14-10 in Junction City.

The Monarchs were outhit 13-11 in suffering just their third loss of the season.

Keegan Demmer led the Monarchs with three hits and three RBIs. Blake Bradford added two hits, a home run and three RBIs.

The Monarchs were down 4-0 after one inning, but by the end of the top of the fourth inning, had stormed back to take a 9-6 lead. However, the Monarchs mustered just one run the rest of the way, while Junction City had eight.

The Monarchs’ lead in the Jayhawk Collegiate League was reduced to one game. At 10-3 in league play, the Monarchs lead Derby by a game and Great Bend by two.

The Monarchs will play again today at the Wichita Wildcats in Rose Hill. The Monarchs’ next home game will be Monday against the Wildcats.
