The Monarchs started strong, scoring three runs in the first inning. The Monarchs loaded the bases with one out, and Drew Bugner’s two-run single gave them the lead for good. Keegan Demmer added a sacrifice fly for the final run of the first inning.

Haysville got a run in the top of the second inning, but the Monarchs answered with two runs. With the bases loaded and nobody out, Jake Gutierrez brought home a run on a fielder’s choice ground ball. AJ Mustow added an RBI on a sacrifice fly.

The Monarchs outhit Haysville 9-5. Demmer and Jeter Worthley led the way with two hits apiece.

The Monarchs improved to 21-5 overall and 19-5 in the Jayhawk Collegiate League. They lead the Derby Twins by three games for first place with eight games left. With Derby beating Kingman on Tuesday, the Monarchs’ magic number to win the league outright was reduced to six.
