Jaden Gustafson had three hits, and Sam Wiese and Zerick Warren drove in three runs apiece, as the Hutchinson Monarchs’ bats woke up Saturday at Hobart-Detter Field after a rough Friday, beating the Great Bend Bat Cats 12-3 at Hobart-Detter Field.

The previous night in Great Bend, the Monarchs had just two runs on seven hits in a 10-inning loss at Great Bend.

The Monarchs bettered that run total in the first inning Saturday. Colin Cymbalista started the rally with a two-run double in the Monarchs’ three-run first inning.

Great Bend answered with its own three-run inning in the top of the third inning, but the Monarchs put three more runs on the scoreboard an inning later. Austin Coyle recorded an RBI when he reached on an error, and Camden Johnson added a two-run double, giving the Monarchs a 6-3 lead.

Wiese’s two-run triple in the fourth-run sixth inning made it a 10-3 game. Warren added an RBI double in a two-run eighth inning.

Derick Johnson pitched four innings in relief in earning the win.

The Monarchs return to Hobart-Detter Field at 6 p.m. Saturday to take on the Diamond Kings.
