McPHERSON, Kan. – McPherson High School head softball coach Daryl Hoelting resigned from his position following an undefeated state title run in his lone season with the Bullpups.
McPherson Athletic Director Shane Backhus told Ad Astra Radio that Hoelting resigned on Monday, June 8. No further information is available at this time. A search is underway for a new head softball coach and new assistant softball coach for the 2025-26 season.
Hoelting was hired onto the MHS staff in August 2024 as the Head Softball Coach. He brought in an historic track record of softball coaching after successful stints at Salina-South and Salina-Sacred Heart High Schools, winning a combined five state titles. He also coached at the college level at Kansas Wesleyan University.
His lone season in McPherson saw the varsity softball team finish with a perfect 31-0 record, taking home their first state title in school history after defeating Eudora 4-1 in the State Title game in Salina on May 30. The magical run saw the Pups win the most regular season games in Kansas High School Softball history (26). The season had memorable moments including a comeback victory against Andale, winning a league title, and a marathon win vs. Wamego that lasted 18 innings.
