McPHERSON, Kan. – It was a competitive opening tournament for the McPherson High Boys Tennis team on Tuesday, as they hosted six other schools while fielding two teams of their own to make an eight-team tournament.

“With such a nice early spring afternoon for tennis, our young team was able to take advantage and gain valuable experience throughout their four matches.” said Assistant Coach Ricardo Sanchez.

Alex Berger and Bryson Archer finished 4th as a doubles duo for McPherson Red, while Kayden McVicker finished the highest for the singles players placing 6th. Coach Sanchez said, “With only one state returner in Kayden McVicker, a lot of our guys stepped up into tougher competition for the first time.” Sanchez expects the team to come into the next practice focused on making improvements for their next competition.

Owen Neighbors and Charlie Krug finished within the top ten, claiming 8th, while Ethan Elder finished 11th for McPherson Red. They finished 3rd as a team with 39 points. Winfield took first with a score of 45, and Derby was only three points back for a second place finish.
