LINDSBORG, Kan. (macbulldogs.com) — The McPherson College Bulldogs men’s tennis team won five championships this weekend at the KCAC Individual Championships in Lindsborg, Kan.
Reigning KCAC Freshman of the Year, Marcus Nardy took home the No. 3-singles title taking down second-seeded Gonzalez of Southwestern. Daniel Marcano followed suit with an 8-1 win in the finals over Bernardo Figueiredo of Ottawa, then Texas Ranger Schmidt wrapped up the singles portion of the championship with an 8-5 win over Sterling’s Zack Hash to bring home the No. 6 singles title.
On the doubles side, Michael Beltran and Martin Millos defended their No. 1 doubles crown, taking down Kansas Wesleyan’s Bryce Ware and Alex Sherer 8-3, while the duo of Arthur Nardy and Marcano knocked off Tomas Quercia and Rodrigo Sanchez of Bethel 8-6 to win No. 3 doubles.
Beltran came up short of winning his third consecutive No. 1 singles title, falling 9-8 in a tiebreaker to Ware. Oscar Brouwer finished in third place in No. 2 singles after falling in the semifinals to Michael Cech.
LINDSBORG, Kan. (macbulldogs.com) — The 2023-24 McPherson College women’s tennis squad got off to a hot start winning six individual titles this weekend in Lindsborg, Kan.
The Bulldogs won all three doubles titles, behind a strong showing by the top duo of Camila Sanchez and Taimi Nashiku. Vanessa Hofer and Bella Ellerbee knocked off the top-seed pairing in Paula Persson and Alejandra Parra from Ottawa, then Grace Maxey and Alexandria Garcia completed the sweep, losing just two games en route to the title in No. 3 doubles.
In the singles tournaments, Maxey put together a dominant performance in the No. 4 bracket, winning each match by a score of 8-0. Hofer took care of business in the fifth spot, knocking off Valeria Rodriguez 8-4 to win the KCAC title. Garcia won her first two matches 8-1, before defeating Antkowiak from Sterling in the finals 8-2.
Sanchez fell in the finals to Ottawa’s Isidora Hrnjak 9-8 in a tiebreaker. Top-seeded Zeynep Barut advanced to the semifinals, but was upset by Ana Alvarez from Sterling.
The Bulldogs, (both men’s and women’s teams) will prepare this week for the ITA Regionals in Salina, Kan. starting Friday (Sep. 22).
