STERLING, Kan. (SCWarriors.com) – Warrior soccer needs to make a push to give themselves a chance to make the KCAC postseason tournament, and today’s win helps keep that hope alive. Behind Marcelo Fuentes‘ clean sheet and team captain, Harvey Tolley‘s penalty kick goal, the Warriors were able to take care of business with a 2-0 win over Evangel on Saturday.
Tolley took advantage of the penalty kick that follows a foul that occurs in the box. Casually placing the ball in the left corner, Sterling took a first half 1-0 lead. Late in the second half, Ruben Guzman tacked on a security goal in the 87′ to ensure the Warrior victory. For Tolley, it is his third goal of the season, for Guzman, his second. Fuentes continues to be the backbone of this team in the net. His clean sheet consisted of seven saves earning him another win this season. These teams were evenly matched and so was the contest. Both teams had seven saves, they were within three shots of each other, and were within one foul of each other.
Sterling hosts Bethel College on Wednesday afternoon in their last home match of the season. Kickoff is scheduled to be around 3 pm.
