LINDSBORG, Kan. (BethanySwedes.com) – The Bethany Swedes played host to the visiting Hastings College Broncos in Hahn Gymnasium on Tuesday night.
Bethany took a commanding lead early in the contest with a 10-point lead nine minutes in. The Broncos would try to climb back, but the Swedes would keep their foot on the pedal; never surrendering the lead in the first half. Bethany would lead Hastings 46-29 at the break.
Following halftime, the Swedes would continue to apply pressure going up by as much as 20 with 12 minutes left to play. Hastings would start to get it together shortly afterwards trimming Bethany’s lead to single-digits following a 20-8 run over the next six minutes. Following a timeout by Head Coach Maverick Harris, the Broncos would score again, but the Swedes would get back on the right foot and take care of business with a 12-8 run to close it out. Bethany would dribble it out to secure an 81-71 victory.
JR Cison would lead the way in scoring for the Swedes with 22 points to go along with three rebounds and a steal. Emmanuel Akpan secured his second double-double of the season with 14 points and 10 boards while also swatting a shot.
Ellis Todd had his best game of the season and career with 15 points, six rebounds, and three assists. Maurice Cudjo II would also score double-digits doing most of his damage from beyond the arc with 11 points to go along with three assists, and two steals. Devin Spencer continued to play stellar defense nabbing a team-high three steals.
The Swedes played a better game this time around shooting 48.2% from the floor and 44.4% from deep. Bethany was better in all statistical categories outside of turnovers and points off turnovers.

The Swedes are set for a rematch with the Barclay College Bears on Saturday, November 9. This time, Bethany will play host in Hahn Gymnasium. Last time these two matched up, the Swedes came out victorious 119-81. Tip-off is set for 3:00 PM.
