Men’s Basketball Bulldogs Hang on Late for Win at Avila

KANSAS CITY, Mo. ( — The McPherson College Bulldogs got back on track Wednesday (Jan. 17) with a 72-61 win over the Avila University Eagles at the Mabee Fieldhouse in Kansas City, Mo.

It was a tale of two halves for the Bulldogs, shooting 46.9 percent from the field in the first half, and 7-for-18 from beyond the arc en route to a 37-20 lead. MC built the huge lead despite 10 first-half turnovers. Curtis Rose scored seven of his 12 points in the opening half.

However, the Eagles drilled seven triples in the second frame to trim the lead to 63-61 with just over a minute to go in the contest. From there, the Bulldogs made nine of their 10 free throws down the stretch to secure the win.

Collin Storr scored 12 points and finished with eight rebounds and four blocks. Quinn Collins added 12 points and pulled down six rebounds.

Free throws were the key for the Bulldogs, shooting 20-for-24 from the charity stripe, all in the second half, compared to just 2-for-6 at the line for the Eagles.

MC will be back at the Sport Center Saturday (Jan. 20) to take on Sterling College. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 P.M.
