FULTON, Mo. (MacBulldogs.com) — The McPherson College Bulldogs comeback bid came up short, falling to the (RV) William Woods University Owls Tuesday (Nov. 26) in Fulton, Mo.

For the second straight game, the Bulldogs found themselves in a double-digit hole at halftime before storming back to cut the deficit to just one with 1:41 remaining. The Owls led by as many as 14 in the second frame, and were up 65-58 with just over five minutes to play.

But from there, free throws down the stretch by Curtis Rose and Tarrance Austin made it a 69-68 Owl advantage. The Owls pulled down three offensive rebounds on the next trip down the floor, before Tre Titus went 1-for-2 at the line to put WWU on top 70-68.

MC had one last opportunity, but Jamil Hardaway’s triple was off the mark.

Austin led the Bulldogs in the scoring column with 17 points, while Dallas Metzger knocked down four shots from beyond the arc en route to 14 points. KJ Marshall rounded out the double-digit scoring for the Bulldogs with 10 points and a team-high eight rebounds. Curtis Rose led the Bulldogs with five assists, and added six rebounds.

The Bulldogs were held to just 37.3 percent shooting, and were 8-for-24 from beyond the arc.

Three Owls scored in double figures with Francis Okwuosah finishing with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Kevin Taylor added 16 points, 12 rebounds and a game-high four steals, while Nate Schwartze scored 12 points.

The Bulldogs never led in the opening half, as WWU scored the first five points then used a 10-2 run to take a 22-10 advantage midway through. The Owls would balloon their lead to as many as 17 with 5:05 left in the first, before leading 43-32 at the break.

MC is back in action on Saturday (Nov. 30) for an exhibition against NCAA Division II foe Pittsburg State. The Bulldogs continue their KCAC schedule next Wednesday (Dec. 4) in Hillsboro, Kan. against Tabor College.
