NORTH NEWTON, Kan. (MacBulldogs.com) — The Bethel College Threshers scored 44 points in the paint Saturday night (Jan. 27) to knock off the McPherson College Bulldogs 64-58 at Thresher Gym in North Newton, Kan. The loss marks the Bulldogs’ first two-game losing skid of the season.
The Threshers led by as many as eight in the opening half before taking a 33-28 lead into halftime. A basket by Collin Storr early in the second frame sparked a 12-1 burst by the Bulldogs that included five consecutive points by Curtis Rose. Labron Wilson drilled a triple to cap the run and put the Bulldogs on top 45-40 with 12:24 to play.
BC regained the lead with 4:05 left in the game, then mounted a seven point advantage before cruising to the win.
Storr led the Bulldogs (13-6, 8-5 KCAC) with 14 points and 15 rebounds, while Antonio Watson added 11 points. The Bulldogs shot 41.1 percent from the field.
Carmelo Yakubu paced the Threshers with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Nick Bonner finished with 12 points and four assists, while Harper Jonas and Jalyn Todd added 10 points apiece.
The Bulldogs have a busy week ahead, taking on York University on Monday (Jan. 29) before hosting Friends University on Wednesday.
