LEAVENWORTH, Kan. (MacBulldogs.com) – The McPherson College Bulldogs dropped their sixth straight game Saturday evening (Dec. 7), falling 83-73 to the University of Saint Mary Spires at Ryan Sports Center in Leavenworth, Kan.
The Bulldogs were led by KJ Marshall who recorded his first career double-double with a career-high 16 points and 10 rebounds. Marshall also blocked two shots.
Four other Bulldogs scored in double figures with Curtis Rose finishing with 14 points, Collin Storr scoring 12 points, and Tarrance Austin and Dallas Metzger each adding 10 points.
MC never led in the first half as the Spires scored the first seven points. The Bulldogs clawed their way back midway through the half to level the score at 19-19 after a triple by Antonio Watson.
However, from there, the Spires pushed their lead back to as many as seven before taking a 38-35 advantage into the break.
The Bulldogs tied the score at 41-41 early in the second half, before taking their first lead of the contest, thanks to an and-one by Rose. USM had a quick answer, but the Bulldogs responded with a 7-0 burst capped off by a basket by Marshall to give them their largest lead of the afternoon, a 54-51 edge with just over 12 minutes to play.
But, from there it was all Spires, taking the lead for good.
The Spires shot 44.6 percent from the field, and were 9-for-26 from beyond the arc. USM had 19 assists on 29 made baskets.
MC will be back in action, returning to Holman Fieldhouse Wednesday night (Dec. 11) for the first time since Nov. 23. Tipoff against Bethany is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
