DALLAS, Tex. – Following back-to-back state titles, the accolades continue to reign in for the McPherson High School Baseball team with Head Coach Heath Gerstner being announced as the American Baseball Coaches Association and ATEC Coach of the Year in High School Div. II.
Gerstner just concluded his ninth season at MHS, finishing the season 21-4 overall, and he collected his 125th win as a Head Coach this season and holds a 129-50 all-time record. He garnered the honor with some of the best baseball coaches at each level across the nation this season, including; Jay Johnson, who won the NCAA Div. I College World Series at Louisiana Southern University earlier this week.
The 2023 ABCA/ATEC National Coaches of the Year will be honored at the 2024 ABCA Convention in Dallas on the main clinic stage on Friday, January 5 prior to the start of clinics.
The ABCA/ATEC National and Regional Coaches of the Year are selected by members of the ABCA All-America & Coach of the Year committees in all nine divisions: NCAA Divisions I, II and III, NAIA, NJCAA Divisions I, II and III, Pacific Association Division and high school.
Founded in 1945, the American Baseball Coaches Association is the primary professional organization for baseball coaches at the amateur level. Its over 15,000 members represent all 50 states and 40 countries. Since its initial meeting of 27 college baseball coaches in June 1945, Association membership has broadened to include nine divisions: NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA, NJCAA, Pacific Association Division, High School, Youth and Travel.
