McPHERSON, Kan. (MacBulldogs.com) – In the first game inside Holman Fieldhouse for the Bulldogs they were unable to rally as they fell to the Waldorf University Warriors 71-61 on Sunday (Nov. 10).
The Warriors came out red hot in the first quarter, shooting at a 58% clip and 50% from behind the three point line to generate a 24-14 lead heading into the second quarter. McPherson came back out and was far better defensively, holding Waldorf to just 13% from the field. The Bulldogs were able to tie the game up at 25, but timely free throws for the Warriors gave them a 34-28 lead at the halftime break.
McPherson came out of the locker room strong, shooting at a 58% clip and forcing timely turnovers to close the gap. The Bulldogs fully closed the gap and took the lead in the fourth as a layup plus the foul scored by Mariah Dightman gave MC a 56-55 lead with just 5:33 remaining in the contest. The Warriors tightened up down the final stretch, going on a final run to secure the road victory.
Dightman led the Bulldogs in scoring, dropping a career high 13 points to go along with five rebounds. Laura Guillamat-Ribo played well despite finding herself in foul trouble, scoring 11 points with all of them coming in the 2nd half.
The Bulldogs return to the road as they travel to Arkansas to face off against John Brown University on Wednesday, November 13. Tipoff is set at 6:00 p.m.
