SALINA, Kan. (MacBulldogs.com) – The Bulldogs were unable to get into the win column for the first time this year as they fell to the Kansas Wesleyan Coyotes on Wednesday (Nov. 20) 97-64 as they fall to 0-7 on the year and 0-2 in KCAC play.
McPherson found themselves in a deep hole early on as the Coyotes, up 8-6, put the hammer down and went on a 21-6 run while shooting 83% from the field to go up 29-12 at the end of the first quarter of play. The Bulldogs were able to chip away at the lead a bit in the second quarter, getting the 17 point lead down to 12 by forcing turnovers and playing strong defense to hold KWU to just 25% from the field, but the offense sputtered as MC went just 2-11 from the field in the quarter. The Coyotes went into halftime with a 42-26 lead.
Kansas Wesleyan came out and got right back into rhythm in the third, shooting at a 64% clip and hitting a trio of threes while continuing to force the Bulldogs into tough shots and turnovers to push their lead out to 71-44. A strong fourth and final quarter by MC proved to be futile as the deficit was just too great as the Bulldogs were unable to change the final result.
Jayla Moore and Raegan Borman tied for the title of leading scorer for the Bulldogs as they both scored 11 points. Gillian Rodgers continued her consistency as she scored 10 points to go along with 6 rebounds.
The Bulldogs return to Holman Fieldhouse for their next matchup as they face off with the Ottawa University Braves on Saturday, November 23. Tipoff is set for 6:00 p.m.
