MCPHERSON, Kan. – McPherson’s offense continued to make strides Friday, and the Bullpups showed they are peaking at the right time as they pounded Mulvane 41-7 in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs.
It was the second most points McPherson has scored this season and the most since a Sept. 8 57-10 win over Augusta.
McPherson has now won three in a row, its best win streak this season, and has won 5 of 6 overall.
The Bullpups leaped to a strong start by scoring two touchdowns in each of the first three quarters. Owen Fetsch threw three first-half touchdowns, two to Cory Muehler and one to Blaise Hoover, and Carlos German added a 2-yard touchdown run, as McPherson led 28-0 at halftime.
Fetsch added a 29-yard touchdown run in the third quarter, and Brody Seidl added a 4-yard return for a touchdown after a blocked punt.
McPherson finished with 283 yards of offense.
The Bullpups will next play at second-seed Buhler in Friday’s second round. McPherson beat Buhler 28-26 on Oct. 19 in Wichita.
