How it Happened
Allyson Harrison opened the scoring for the Bulldogs, rising above the defense to head home a corner kick in the 11th minute. The Bulldogs continued to apply pressure to the Knights defense, recording two more shots; this aggressive play led to Alyssa Hill’s yellow card after a collision with the Knights’ goalie in the 18-yard box. McPherson doubled their lead in the 27th minute when Linci Leyva converted another pinpoint corner delivery from Gracie Speltz, sending the Bulldogs into halftime up 2-0.
The Bulldogs continued dominating possession following the restart, forcing the Knights goalkeeper to make saves. Speltz extended the lead in the 60th minute with a long-range strike from outside the 18, burying it into the top right corner. Mackenzie McNeil would add to the Bulldogs lead ten minutes later, before Taylor Duvall capped the scoring in the 80th minute, calmly slotting home a one-on-one chance with the keeper. The final blasts from the whistle secured a dominant 5-0 victory and marked Coach Thomson’s first win at the helm of McPherson College.
