McPherson, Kan. native, McPherson High School alum, and current senior on the KU Volleyball team, Rhian Swanson, was named on the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-Region Central Honorable Mention team.
Swanson was one of three players honored by the AVCA from the KU Volleyball team, who are currently preparing for the Sweet 16 round of the NCAA Tournament. The 6’2″ Pin Hitter averaged 3.09 kills per set with a .257 hitting percentage. She also had 50 blocks and 58 digs during the 2025 season so far.
While at McPherson, Swanson was an all-league honoree in all four years from 2018-21 as well as the league’s Most Valuable Player in her sophomore and junior years. She totaled 2,037 career kills, helping McPherson reach the State Tournament in 2020 and 2021, where she was also named a First Team All-State honoree in both of those seasons.
The Jayhawks will play in the Sweet 16 in Lincoln, Neb., against the No. 1 Nebraska Cornhuskers on Friday, Dec. 12, at 8:30 p.m. The match will air on national television on ESPN2.
