
LINDSBORG, Kan. (MacBulldogs.com) – The McPherson College men’s tennis program captured the KCAC Tournament Championship Saturday, defeating top-seeded Ottawa 4-2.
The Bulldogs are now 20-8 on the season while the team secured its 10th consecutive tournament title.
After dropping the doubles point, head coach Craig Holman‘s team bounced back in tremendous fashion to secure four singles victories.
Celien Botlan bested his counterpart at the No. 2 spot with a 6-3, 6-1 victory, tying the match at 1-1.
Jayson Wasserfuhr suffered a hard-fought loss at No. 4, giving the designated home team a 2-1 advantage. However, the Bulldogs bounced back quickly.
Arthur Nardy needed extra time, but knocked off his foe 7-5, 6-4 at the No. 1 position. Oscar Brouwer needed a tiebreaker in both sets. However, he pulled through with a 7-6 (11-9), 7-6 (7-3) victory at No. 3.
Balazs Temesvari went to the third set before taking down his opponent, securing the championship for MC. Temesvari won the first set 6-0 before dropping a 7-5 frame in the second stanza. Temesvari rattled off a 6-4 win in the third set for the win.
Fifth-seeded Simon Delgadillo’s match went unfinished. Delgadillo was in the third set with his opponent. Delgadillo lost the first set 7-5 before winning 6-4 in the second set. Delgadillo trailed 5-4 in the third set.
In doubles action, Botlan and Brouwer won at No. 1 by a 6-5 score. However, the tandem of Delgadillo and Nardy lost 6-3 while Temesvari and Wasserfuhr lost 6-2 at No. 3.
