SALINA, Kan. – The McPherson High School Volleyball team played their home invitational on Saturday, Oct. 12, which was moved to Salina South High School due to ongoing construction of the McPherson Roundhouse floor.
The Bullpups finished as runners-up in the tournament, finishing 4-1 overall. McPherson swept pool play, defeating Salina South 2-0 (25-19, 25-14), Nickerson 2-0 (25-14, 25-16), and Garden Plain 2-1 (22-25, 25-19, 25-19).
The Pups used their momentum to the semifinals, defeating a tough Hutchinson team 2-1 (25-20, 23-25, 25-18). However, they fell in the title match to Bishop Carroll 2-0 (10-25, 27-29).
Ava Romero led with 45 total kills (3.8/set) and 51 total digs (4.3/set). Brooke Doile led with seven service aces, while also finishing with 38 kills and 29 digs. Rylie Whitfield had 128 assists (10.7/set) and 35 digs.
The Bullpups’ season record is now 28-5 with just four games left in the regular season. They enter the final week of the regular season 3rd in the 4A West Sub-State standings.
Their next bout will be Senior Night on Tuesday, Oct. 14, where the varsity team will play at McPherson High School for a triangular with Buhler and Wellington. The JV team will play the same school that day, but at McPherson Middle School. Their regular season ends Thursday, Oct. 16 in Winfield with a triangular with Winfield and Augusta.
