McPherson High School Promotes Stephanie Patterson to Head Softball Coach

McPHERSON, Kan. – McPherson High School Activities Director Shane Backhus announced that the school has hired a new Head Softball Coach, Stephanie Patterson.

Patterson most recently acted as the varsity assistant coach of the McPherson Softball team that finished as undefeated state champions in 2025, her first year coaching at MHS. Prior to coaching for the Bullpups, she was the assistant coach for Buhler High School.

The Hutchinson native graduated from Buhler in 2011 before playing four years of softball at Kansas Wesleyan University. While as a part of the Coyotes, she was a part of two conference championships and an NAIA top 25 ranking nationally.

“MHS is excited to name Stephanie Patterson as the next head coach of the Bullpup Softball
Program,” Shane Backhus said. “Her experience with our program, as well as
the high school program at Buhler, has provided her with a strong coaching foundation that we
are confident can lead our program for years to come.”

The new head coach will kick off her first season by hosting the Bullpup Softball Camp July 14-17 from 6-8 p.m. at the Grant Sports Complex. The camp is open to young athletes looking to connect with the program and sharpen their skills.
