WICHITA, Kan. (macbulldogs.com) — Camila Sanchez was named KCAC Women’s Tennis Freshman of the Year, while Grace Maxey picked up First-Team All-KCAC honors, and Vanessa Hofer was named All-KCAC Honorable Mention, the league announced Wednesday (Apr. 26).
Sanchez, a three-time KCAC Player of the Week, capped off an outstanding freshman season with the program’s first Freshman of the Year honors for the first time since the 2017 season. The Mexico City native was also named All-KCAC first team, posting a 12-6 record in #1 singles.
“From player of the week to freshman of the year!” head coach Keiran President said. “What a season she’s having. It takes a lot to come into a program as a freshman and play at the #1 spot. There is some pressure to it, but she handled that pressure very well. She is very talented and hardworking; I can’t wait to see how much she progresses during her time at McPherson.”
Maxey, a second-team all-conference selection in 2022, posted an 8-1 conference record in #2 singles and a 5-1 mark as the Bulldog’s top doubles team along with partner Kendra Maples.
Hofer finished the season with a 7-2 record in KCAC play to secure an Honorable Mention selection. She split time in doubles with partners Sanchez and Kayla Ortiz, posting a 5-4 mark.
“Congratulations to this team for all the work they put in on and off the court,” President said. “Watching them all grow throughout the season was very nice to see as well. They represent our program well, and I’m proud of them all. Congratulations to those who make All-Conference. I can’t wait to see them play again this weekend!”
