TOPEKA – Sophomore sprinter Kebba Makalo became an NJCAA All-American for the third time in his career to lead the Hutchinson Community College men’s track and field team on the final day of the NJCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday at the Sneed Indoor Athletic Facility.

Makalo placed third in the men’s 200 meters with a time of 20.74 seconds.

That performance helped the Region 6 champion Blue Dragon men place 11th in the 2026 championships with 24 points. Barton was the team champion with 75 points, New Mexico Junior College was second with 74 points and Iowa Central was third with 72 points.

The difference between first and third in the 200 finals was 0.12 seconds. Hinds’ Jayval Wright won with a time of 20.62 seconds and Sharquane Toussaint of Monroe University was second in 20.33 seconds.

Makalo broke his own Blue Dragon 200-meter record. He also earned his third All-America award in his Blue Dragon career. Makalo was a first-team and second-team All-American at the 2025 outdoor championships at Gowans Stadium.

Freshman Esteban Oses Campos earned second-team All-America honors after placing fourth in the men’s Mile Run. Oses Campos ran a time of 4:09.73, which was a personal record and the second-fastest time in Blue Dragon indoor history.

The only other Blue Dragon to compete on Saturday was sophomore Cornelius Kogo, who placed 23rd in the 3,000-meter finals with a time of 8:48.38.

The Blue Dragons open their outdoor season on March 28 at the Mark A. Phillips Invitational in Arkansas City.
