McPHERSON, Kan. — In a bittersweet moment last month, Head Baseball Coach Kyle MacKinnon announced that he accepted a job with the Arizona Diamondbacks. MacKinnon will step away from the team immediately and begin his role with the Diamondbacks in the coming weeks.

MacKinnon has spent the last seven years at McPherson College, growing from his role as a student assistant to graduate assistant before being named Head Coach in August of 2021.

During his time as a member of the Bulldogs coaching staff, MacKinnon has been a key contributor to the success the Bulldogs have seen on the field.

Over the past two seasons, the Bulldogs have set numerous offensive records. In his first full season as Head Coach in 2022, the team set the school record for wins in a season, finishing at 40-14. In addition to the win record, MacKinnon led the Bulldogs to an NAIA Regional Appearance in Miami Gardens, Fla.

“It has been an amazing opportunity for me to watch the program grow over the last seven years,” MacKinnon said. “It has been a pleasure to come in and change the culture to a winning culture, year by year. I’m thrilled about the future, but I know, with the staff we have assembled, these guys will continue to grow and reach the goals we set for the program this year. The staff will continue to be great moving forward and have some of the brightest minds at this level leading the charge. I can’t wait to follow along on their trip and see how far this season’s roster can go!”

The McPherson Athletic Administration has named current Assistant Coaches Andrew Pratt and Pete Horner as Interim Co-Head Coaches for the remainder of the 2023 season. Pratt has served as an assistant since 2019, while Horner joined the coaching staff in 2021.
